Description

The ISL8274M is a complete PMBus enabled DC/DC, dual-channel, step-down advance power supply, capable of delivering up to 30A per channel and optimized for high power density applications.

Operating across an input voltage range of 4.5V to 14V, the ISL8274M offers adjustable output voltages down to 0.6V and achieves up to 95.5% conversion efficiencies. A unique ChargeMode™ control architecture provides a single clock cycle response to an output load step and can support switching frequencies up to 1.06MHz. The power module integrates all power and most passive components and requires only a few external components to operate. A set of optional external resistors allows the user to easily configure the device for standard operation. For advanced configurations, a standard PMBus interface addresses tasks such as sequencing and fault management, as well as real-time full telemetry and point-of-load monitoring. Additionally, the nonvolatile memory can store the desired custom configuration and settings.

A fully customizable voltage, current, and temperature protection scheme ensures safe operation for the ISL8274M under abnormal operating conditions. The device is also supported by the PowerNavigator™ software, a full digital power train development environment.

The ISL8274M is available in a low profile, compact 18mmx23mmx7.5mm fully encapsulated, thermally enhanced HDA package.

Renesas - Industrial Ethernet Application Development New RZ/N1 Solution Kit

Renesas Electronics, a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, today announced the availability of the new RZ/N1 microprocessor (MPU) Solution Kit designed to support various industrial network applications including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), intelligent network switches, gateways, operator terminals and remote I/O solutions.

 

The new RZ/N1 Solution Kit is a complete development package that includes the hardware and software to enable faster prototyping of leading industrial Ethernet protocols such as EtherCAT®, EtherNet/IP™, ETHERNET Powerlink®, PROFINET®, Sercos®, and CANopen®, thereby accelerating development and saving up to six months of industrial network protocol integration into customers’ applications.

 

The new kit includes a CPU development board based on the RZ/N1S MPU. In addition, a comprehensive software package is included with all the drivers and middleware, sample protocol stacks, U-Boot and Linux®-based BSP, a unique inter-processor communication software, and even a user-friendly PinMuxing tool that can generate C-code header files that removes the complexity of pin configuration. Enhanced operating system flexibility

Developers can now evaluate using the operating system (OS) ThreadX® for the applications subsystem, in addition to Linux that is already supported by the RZ/N1. Both OS options support the leading industrial Ethernet protocols that have been implemented on RZ/N1.

Description

The ISL70321SEH and ISL73321SEH are radiation hardened and SEE mitigated power supply sequencers designed to drive Point-of-Load (POL) regulators with enable pins. Up to four power supplies can be fully sequenced by a single device or multiple devices can be easily cascaded to sequence an unlimited number of power supplies for dense RF applications.

 

This power supply sequencer requires only two feedback resistors per power supply and a single resistor to set the rising and falling delay. The device features precision input comparators with an input threshold voltage of 600mV ±1.5% for the highest possible accuracy when monitoring the power supply voltages. 

 

The ISL70321SEH and ISL73321SEH are offered in an 18 Ld 10mmx12mm CDFP package or die form and are fully specified across the military ambient temperature range of -55°C to +125°C.

 

With minimal external component count, precision voltage monitoring, and SET mitigation, the ISL70321SEH and ISL73321SEH are the ideal choice to control many of today’s highly dense power systems in high reliability applications.

COTO Technologies RedRock TMR RR121 Magnetic Sensor
Coto Technology has been awarded Sensors Midwest's Best of Show "Silver" award for its newly-released RedRock TMR RR121 Magnetic Sensor.     Seeking to replace aging magnetic sensor technology, the RR121 represents a huge breakthrough for design engineers seeking the lowest possible power consumption and highest sensitivity in an ultra-miniature package. Released on October 3, the RR121 magnetic sensor series will address new generation requirements in multiple markets including medical, industrial, security, white goods and automotive. Design engineers using older technology switches and sensors will no longer have to suffer the detractions in power, size, sensitivity and cost - and will now have greater flexibility and reliability as well as cost efficiency. The RR121 offers the lowest power, highest sensitivity in the smallest package available in the world!

The RR121 is ideal for applications including medical, industrial, consumer, automotive, security, and energy industries where very low average current consumption, high sensitivity, and a small package size are required.  Specific medical applications include portable and battery-powered medical devices like ingestibles and implantables that are hermetically sealed and need a way to be triggered without compromising their protective encasement.  Many of these devices, such as capsule endoscopes, remain in "standby mode" on a doctor's shelf for up to 18 months - so battery power conservation is critical.  The small size of these types of medical devices and the need for hermetic seals to survive the gastrointestinal tract necessitates a tiny, contactless means for "waking up" the microprocessor from outside of the body.

Magnetic sensors are also used in some hearing aids to provide a means of mode switching, whether it be for turning the device on or off, performing diagnostic checks, or tuning the hearing aid's response when a telephone speaker is brought near the ear.  The RR121 is ideal for consumer appliances requiring accurate liquid level measurement, such as dishwashers, washing machines, coffeemakers, and refrigerators. The RR121 can replace historically-used large reed switches to provide a more accurate measure of the liquid level, saving energy, water usage, and costs for consumers while improving sustainability for the environment. It can also be used to measure flow of both liquids and gases in these same applications to ensure that the devices are operating accurately.

That flow measurement can also be utilized in residential and commercial water meters to provide accurate reporting of usage while the unipolar response can act as an additional inherent resistance to tampering.  With regard to utility meters, the RR121 can replace reed switches used in the rotational counting common to gas and electric meters as well as provide a fail-safe activation method for the wireless circuit that facilitates remote measurement as advanced metering systems replace aging infrastructure in the US and overseas. 

The RR121 also provides a smaller, more robust solution for residential and commercial security systems. Its small size and high sensitivity allow it to be embedded into doors jams and window sills to monitor their opening and closing and prevent unauthorized entry. They can even be integrated with ambient light sensors as part of automated window blinds that adjust to reduce solar heating, saving homes and businesses on HVAC energy costs.

Description

The ISL95338 is a bidirectional, buck-boost voltage regulator that provides buck-boost voltage regulation and protection features. Intersil’s advanced R3™ Technology is used to provide high light-load efficiency, fast transient response, and seamless DCM/CCM transitions.

The ISL95338 takes input power from a wide range of DC power sources (conventional AC/DC ADPs, USB PD ports, travel ADPs, etc.) and safely converts it to a regulated voltage up to 24V. The ISL95338 can also convert a wide range DC power source connected at its output (system side) to a regulated voltage to its input (ADP side). This bidirectional buck-boost regulation feature makes its application very flexible.

The ISL95338 includes various system operation functions such as Forward mode enable, Reverse mode enable, programmable soft-start time, and adjustable VOUT in both the forward direction and reverse direction. The protection functionalities include OCP, OVP, UVP, OTP, etc.

The ISL95338 has serial communication through SMBus/I2C that allows programming of many critical parameters to deliver a customized solution. These programming parameters include, but are not limited to: output current limit, input current limit, and output voltage setting.

Intersil, a Renesas Company, Debuts the Industry's First 15A, 42V Analog Power Module

Intersil, a Renesas Company, has just announced the ISL8215M:a single-channel, synchronous step-down, non-isolated complete power supply, capable of delivering up to 15A of continuous current. Operating from a single 7V to 42V wide input power rail and integrating the controller, power inductor, and MOSFETs, the ISL8215M requires only a few external components to operate and is optimized for space constrained applications.



Based on a valley current mode PWM control scheme, the ISL8215M provides fast transient response and excellent loop stability. It offers an adjustable output voltage range of 0.6V to 12V with better than 1.5% accuracy over line, load, and temperature. A 40ns typical minimum on time and an adjustable operating frequency allow it to support low duty cycle, single-step down conversions to point-of-load voltages and its operating frequency can also be synchronized with an external clock signal.



The ISL8215M implements a selectable Pulse Skipping Mode (PSM) with Diode Emulation Mode (DEM) to improve light-load efficiency for battery related applications. A programmable soft-start reduces the inrush current from the input supply while a dedicated enable pin and power-good flag allow for easy system power rails sequencing with voltage tracking capability. Excellent efficiency and low thermal resistance permit full power operation without heatsinks. Input Undervoltage Lockout (UVLO), over-temperature, programmable overcurrent, output overvoltage, and output prebias start-up protections ensure safe operations under abnormal operating conditions.

The new MID-OLRM extended rail RM8 transformer series for offline applications from Wurth Electronics Midcom is now available.

“For the past 30 years, the RM packages have required flying leads to meet reinforced insulation and creepage and clearance distances. We decided to change this by adding an extended rail to the existing RM8 package; eliminating the need to have flying leads. This package also meets the stringent

Description

The ISL32740E is a galvanically isolated, high-speed differential bus transceiver, designed for bidirectional data communication on balanced transmission lines. The device uses Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR) as its isolation technology.

The part is available in a 16 Ld QSOP package offering unprecedented miniaturization, and in a 16 Ld SOICW package providing a true 8mm creepage distance.

The ISL32740E is PROFIBUS compliant, including the rigorous PROFIBUS differential output voltage specifications.

Description

The TW8844 and TW8845 are highly integrated LCD video processors that incorporate many of the features required to create a multipurpose LCD display system. This includes a high quality, 2D comb NTSC/PAL/SECAM video decoder that supports single-ended or differential composite video inputs, two independent TTL digital input interfaces (up to 24-bit each), two LVDS Open LDI input interfaces, two separate high quality scaler and deinterlacer engines, as well as a versatile OSD and EEPROM interface. The outputs include dual channel LVDS Open LDI, or TTL panel interfaces, as well as a separate MIPI-CSI2 (TW8844) or pseudo BT.656 (TW8845) output. The TW8844 and TW8845 can support input resolutions up to 1080p and can drive LCD panels at resolutions up 1920x1080. The TW8844 and TW8845's video processing capability includes arbitrary H/V scaling, panoramic scaling, image mirroring, image adjustment and enhancement, Automatic Contrast Adjustment, etc. In addition, the TW8844 and TW8845 have new image diagnostic capabilities to determine if the input video is corrupted. Skyworks Introduces Industry-leading Ultra-low Loss DPDT Antenna Swap Switch
Skyworks has launched its new ultra-low loss DPDT switch, the SKY13698-694LF, designed for smartphones, data cards, and MiFi® hotspots. This device delivers industry-leading insertion loss across all cellular bands, while maintaining >30 dB isolation at 3.8 GHz. The wide operating frequency range makes it the first cellular antenna swap device to support emerging, high band applications such as LAA/LTE-U and sub-6 GHz.  

Overview

The SKY13698-694LF is a state-of-the-art CMOS, silicon-oninsulator (SOI) double-pole, double-throw (DPDT) switch. The switch provides high-linearity performance, low insertion loss, and high isolation.

Switching is controlled by one voltage input, CTRL1. Depending on the logic voltage level applied to this pin, the PORT1 and PORT2 pins connect to one of the two other RF port pins (PORT3 or PORT4) through a low insertion loss path, while maintaining a high isolation path to the alternate port. No external DC blocking capacitors are required on the RF path as long as no DC voltage is applied externally.

High Current Flat Wire Power Inductor with Higher Saturation Current

Würth Elektronik eiSos Expands its WE-HCF Product Family!

Würth Elektronik eiSos presents WE-HCF in a 2815 package, a flat wire power inductor with very high current loading capacity and efficiency. The latest member of the WE-HCF series is loadable up to 36 A and attains saturation currents up to 125 A. With its large wire cross-section, the inductor offers a 13 percent lower resistance than comparable products on the market and attains an up to 82 percent higher saturation current.

WE-HCF in the 2815 package fills the gap between the previously available 2013 and 2818 packages and represents a further improvement of the SMT-mountable inductors – with up to 50 percent higher nominal currents than the 2013 series. The flat wire coil has a resistance of just 1.31 mΩ and with its manganese-zinc-ferrite core, the magnetically shielded power choke shows very low core losses. The component specified up to 125°C is suitable as a highly efficient DC/DC converter for individual and multiphase converters or for filtering audio applications. WE-HCF is also especially suitable for high current step-up converters.

Intersil Unveils Highly Integrated Multi-Cell Battery Pack Monitor

Feature-rich ISL94202 enables smallest Li-ion battery pack designs.


Intersil, a subsidiary of Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), today announced the ISL94202 3-to-8 cell battery pack monitor that supports lithium-ion (Li-ion) and other battery chemistries used in applications such as vacuum cleaners, lawn equipment, handheld power tools, e-bikes, scooters, toys, and energy storage systems. Li-ion batteries are smaller, weigh less, and deliver longer battery life than other battery chemistries, but require monitoring and protection for safe use. The highly integrated ISL94202 battery pack monitor enables ultra-small 2-terminal designs, and accurately monitors, protects and cell balances rechargeable battery packs to ensure safe operation and charging.

 

The ISL94202 operates as a stand-alone battery protection system using an internal state machine with five pre-programmed modes for accurately balancing and controlling each battery cell. It monitors and protects the battery pack from catastrophic events such as hardware faults, short circuit conditions, and cell voltage overcharge/over-discharge and meets the UL2054, UL2271/72 and IEC62133 specified pack safety requirements. Designers can program the ISL94202 battery monitor's protection settings to enable the industry's smallest, low-cost battery packs without requiring an external microcontroller. If required, the ISL94202 can also communicate with an external microcontroller via I2C serial bus to provide additional fuel gauge measurements, including state of charge and state of health information. Precise fuel gauge status is provided by the device's high-side current measurement feature.

The ISL94202 integrates high-side charge/discharge FET drive circuitry, which makes it easy to interface to tools or electric motor equipment. The device also controls external passive cell balancing switches to ensure good cell energy matching while protecting the pack's cell life from chronic undercharging. In addition, the ISL94202 can withstand factory pack assembly hot plug events, which greatly simplifies manufacturing.

"The ISL94202 offers customers all the necessary front end battery features to protect against catastrophic pack failure," said Philip Chesley, senior vice president of Precision Products at Intersil. "Its innovative high-side FET control, current monitoring and cell measurement delivers a small footprint solution for efficient battery pack designs."

They are both part of Intersil's family of industrial battery management solutions, including the ISL94208 4-to-6 cell Li-ion battery management analog front end, and ISL94212 Li-ion battery manager IC, which supervises up to 12 series connected cells, and is cascadable up to 14 devices or 168 cells.

Renesas Electronics Delivers R9J02G012 Controller That Enables Device-to-Device Authentication in Support of Safer USB Power Delivery Ecosystem

Industry’s First USB Power Delivery Controller Supporting Both USB PD Rev. 3.0 and USB Type-C™ Authentication Rev 1.0 in a Single Package

 

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 30, 2017 — Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, today announced its new R9J02G012 USB Power Delivery (USB PD) controller intended for use in a wide range of USB PD products employing direct current (DC) power including AC adapters, PCs, smartphones, other consumer and office equipment, and toys. The R9J02G012 is the industry’s first single package solution (Note 1) that supports both USB Power Delivery Rev. 3.0 (USB PD 3.0) and USB Type-C™ Authentication Rev 1.0, which enables device-to-device authentication.

 

The demand for fast charging mobile devices is growing, driving increased demand for high DC power delivery (e.g. 100W). Previously, system manufacturers frequently implemented proprietary fast-charging methods using USB Micro-B connectors. However, with recent smartphone charging/battery incidents, it is critical to offer a safe ecosystem of USB PD compatible products. The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), an industry-leading technology consortium, has standardized the following specifications to provide open, unified and interoperable technologies to fulfill these market needs:

  1. USB Type-C Rev 1.2 Specification: For simpler, easier physical connection of cables, chargers and devices
  2. USB Power Delivery Rev 3.0 Specification: For higher power delivery protocols with additional performance, safety and upgradability features like PD firmware update
  3. USB Type-C Authentication Rev 1.0 Specification: For device-to-device authentication allowing system manufacturers to implement additional charging policies for trusted high-power charging over USB Type-C

 

As a long-time supporting member and a board member for USB Implementers Forum, Renesas has adopted all three standards. The new R9J02G012 is a flexible, small-package USB PD controller for USB Type-C port control on any USB PD devices. All connecting ports to these USB PD devices with the R9J02G012 will be able to electronically verify and trust its authenticity based on the certificates and public key infrastructure (PKI) defined in the USB Type-C Authentication specification. This mechanism allows system manufacturers to implement policies to examine the genuine origin of the connected PD devices such as cables and chargers before a high-power charging of (e.g., 20V at 3A) is executed.

 

Key features of the R9J02G012:

(1) Supports the new USB PD Rev 3.0 standard and the USB Type-C Authentication  Rev 1.0 standards for device-to-device authentication

The R9J02G012 provides support for USB PD 3.0 and USB Type-C Authentication to identify genuine or counterfeit devices. Leveraging more than 30 years of experience in supplying secure microcontrollers (MCUs), Renesas has incorporated highly tamper-resistant technology and information management technology to prevent security attack attempts on MCUs. Renesas has adopted these technologies for the R9J02G012.

 

(2) Implements the USB PD 3.0 and USB Type-C authentication standards on a compact, single package, reducing the mounting area on the board to less than 50 percent of that from the existing Renesas device

The R9J02G012 integrates support for the USB PD 3.0 and USB Type-C Authentication standards in a single package, where previously each required a separate chip. It is available in an easy-to-mount QFN package as well as the more compact BGA package, reducing the mounting area in cables or electronic devices. The board mounting area is less than 50 percent the area required when using the existing Renesas R9A02G011.

 

(3) Supports PD firmware update (PDFU) in USB PD Rev 3.0 specification

The R9J02G012 also supports the Power Delivery Firmware Update (PDFU) Specification, Revision 1.0. This optional PD feature is an open standard enabling firmware updates of the device via a USB Type-C cable.

 

Pricing and Availability

Samples of the R9A02G012 are available from June 2017. Mass production is scheduled to begin in the beginning of January 2018 and is expected to reach a volume of 1,000,0000 units per month in January 2009.

Renesas plans to expand its range of reference designs for applications such as USB Type-C power banks and mobile batteries by combining the R9J02G012 with power products from Renesas and Intersil Corporation, which was acquired by Renesas in February 2017. With the introduction of the R9J02G012, system manufacturers can easily construct a trusted power charging ecosystem of USB PD products based on the USB PD and USB Type-C Authentication standards.

Würth Elektronik eiSos at PCIM Europe 2017.

The internationally leading trade show for power electronics, PCIM Europe, which was held in Nuremberg from 16–18 May 2017, Würth Elektronik eiSos exhibited intelligent drive technology, renewable energy and energy management. The manufacturer presented its broad-based portfolio of electronic and electromechanical components and unveiled a whole range of new products.

The WE-HCF, now available in 2815 package, is a flat wire power inductor with very high current loading capacity and efficiency. The inductor’s large wire cross-section makes its resistance 13 percent lower than comparable products on the market and it attains up to 82 percent higher saturation current. The component specified up to 125°C is suitable as a highly efficient DC/DC converter or for filtering audio applications.

WE-DPC HV (Double Power Choke High Voltage) are the smallest coupled power chokes yet in the Würth Elektronik eiSos portfolio. With these products the manufacturer has managed to raise efficiency beyond that of comparable chokes. The flexibly deployable SMD transformer WE-FLEX HV with an isolation voltage of 1.5 kVAC is completely unrivaled on the market. High Current, High Frequency

Wireless Data Transmission

Highly integrated ISL91211 PMIC enables 91% efficiency and 40% smaller solution size for smartphones, IoT devices, and other space/power constrained systems

Intersil, a subsidiary of Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), today introduced a highly integrated programmable power management IC (PMIC) that delivers 91% efficiency at 1.1V output voltage for application processors, GPUs, FPGAs and high-performance system power. The new PMIC's low RDS(on) MOSFETs and programmable PWM frequency allows designers to use fewer low-profile external components, enabling a 50mm2 power-supply that is 40% smaller than competing solutions. The ISL91211 triple/quad output PMIC is ideal for smartphones, tablet computers, solid-state drives, networking and wireless Internet of Things (IoT) devices powered by single-cell Lithium-ion (Li-on) batteries, or 2.5V – 5.5V power supplies.

The ISL91211 leverages Intersil's latest R5™ modulation technology to provide the industry's fastest single-cycle transient response and highest switching frequency (4MHz) during load transients. Quiescent current is only 62μA while the ISL91211 is regulating the output voltage. The PMIC's superior light load efficiency, regulation accuracy and fast dynamic response prolong battery life.

The ISL91211 PMIC includes highly efficient synchronous buck converters capable of multiphase and single-phase operation while delivering up to 5A per phase of continuous output current. The PMIC's four integrated buck controllers dynamically reconfigure their power stages to address a wide range of applications with high efficiency and high output power. Precise current sensing allows the ISL91211 to automatically and smoothly add or drop phases to optimize power efficiency, and provide overcurrent protection without requiring DCR or resistor sensing circuits at the inductor.

"The latest generation of application processors requires a new PMIC modulation architecture that can dramatically shrink solution size and increase efficiency," said Andrew Cowell, senior vice president of Mobile Power Products at Intersil. 5G in Perspective — A Pragmatic Guide to What's Next

Simply put, 5G mobile networks and wireless systems are the next phase in global telecommunication standards. QUARTZ CRYSTALS FOR VARIOUS WIRELESS APPLICATIONS 

HIGH FREQUENCY STABILITY FOR IOT APPLICATIONS:

Due to their high frequency stability as well as their very low ESR these JXS WA quartz crystals are especially suitable for IoT and industrial applications (IoT, IIoT). This JXS WA series is available at 14 special frequencies which are required to generate a pure and stable reference clock for many RF-transceivers and RF-ASICs. Typical frequencies are for example 24.0 / 26.0 / 32.0 / 37.40 / 38.40 or 40.0 MHz that are often used for RF-ASICs for wireless applications like Bluetooth low Energy (BLE), Bluetooth Smart, Zigbee, ISM, LoRa, LPWAN etc.

Furthermore, this series of quartz crystals may be designed into applications for telecommunication or in wearables, small portable computer systems, that are used nowadays for example in the health care sector or in all kinds of sport activities.

THREE STANDARD PACKAGES:

The quartz crystals are available in standard packages 2016, 2520 and 3225.

Besides, the JXS WA series shows an aging of +/- 1 ppm during the first year, and a very low long term aging.
